Francis groaned hoarsely into his pillow. Another grating cough shook his body, making his throat hurt even more. He hated getting sick. Somehow, despite his efforts to boost his immune system, he had caught the bad bug that circulated through the high school. He felt like crap, and knew it reflected in his appearance. Even though he managed to shower that morning, he didn't have the strength to shave or brush out his hair. Francis just crawled back into bed and curled up into a ball.

He tried watching a movie on his TV, only to fall asleep once again. The eighteen year old woke up an hour later, feeling worse, now with a stuffed up nose and a headache. Francis shot his mom a text, asking her to bring home some medicine and cough drops. He hated bothering her at work. She was a busy woman working as a manager for an art gallery in the city mall. To his relief, she replied seconds later, telling him she'd do just that. Francis thanked her, and tried to busy himself with something that didn't make his headache worse.

His phone chimed and buzzed when he received a text around lunch time. He fumbled for it, nearly knocking over his alarm clock in the process. The message came from (y/n), one of his good friends and AP Art classmate.

'Are you okay?' she asked him. 'I haven't seen you all day.'

Francis slowly keyed in his response. His lack of energy made his replies short. 'Sick. Feel like dying... XP'

'I'm so sorry. It's that bad?'

'Yeah.'

'What can I do to help?'

Francis smiled at her offer. 'Bring my homework? For today, and tomorrow?'

'Sure.~ Want me to stop by and say hi?'

'No. Don't want you sick, too.'

"Okay... Well, get feeling better. School isn't the same. :)'

Francis chuckled at the last sentence. It quickly turned into another coughing fit. 'I'll try. :)'

'Good. Gotta run to class. I'll talk to you later.~'

'Bye.'

Francis sighed raggedly as he dropped his phone next to his pillow. His eyes lingered on the phone, half hoping that (y/n) would text him during class. She never did(his friend obeyed classroom rules). The throbbing of his head reminded him the headache was still there. Francis carefully got out of bed, descended the stairs to the kitchen and grabbed something to eat, steadying himself along the way. He hadn't eaten much, which might have been the cause of his headache. He returned to his room with a bottle of water, some yogurt and a banana. He stopped at the bathroom and grabbed a bottle of ibuprofen. After eating one of the yogurts and half of the banana, he downed two pills and went back to bed.

"Stupid Gilbert," Francis whimpered. His voice cracked a little. He closed his eyes again. "Why did 'e 'ave to give it to me?"

(y/n) knocked on the front door of The Bonnefoy house. She lightly gripped the straps of her (f/c) Jansport backpack as she waited, rocking on the heels of her feet. The lock on the door clicked before the knob turned. (y/n)'s eyes landed on the form of Francis's model gorgeous mother. Every time she came over to hang out with Francis, (y/n) was reminded of who her friend took after. It definitely was his mother.

"Ah! (y/n)! I didn't know you were coming," Mrs. Bonnefoy said as she welcomed her in. Her accent was just as heavenly as Francis's.

"Hi, Adelle," (y/n) greeted with a smile. "I've brought Francis's homework for him. How is he doing?"

The woman's face fell. "Not well, I'm afraid. 'e 'as a fever now. 'e's barely eating, and refuses to take zhe medicine."

"Really?" (y/n) said as she took off her sneakers, leaving them in the doorway. "It's that bad?"

"Oui," Adelle sighed sadly. "I've tried everyzhing I could zhink of. 'e told me 'e'd only take it if it tasted like strawberries or bubblegum."

(y/n) giggled along with her friends's mom. "Oh, Francis. I bet I could make him take a spoonful."

"It would be a miracle if you do."

"Could I go see him?" (y/n) asked.

"Of course you can," Mrs. Bonnefoy said with a smile. "I know 'e'd be 'appy to see you."

"Thank you!" (y/n) started ascending the stairs, only to stop on the first stair.

"Oh, (y/n)! Wait."

The young woman turned around. "Yeah?"

"I need to go into work, but I'd 'ate to leave Francis alone." Adelle pressed her fingers together and placed them in front of her face. "Would you be willing to stay until 'is fazher comes 'ome?"

"Of course I can!" (y/n) chirped happily.

"Merci beaucoup. Make sure 'e eats somezhing, and takes zhe medicine."

(y/n) nodded. "I will. Don't worry. I'll take care of Francis."

"Tu es un ange!" Adelle said as she hugged (y/n), pecking both of her cheeks. "I'll let my 'usband know. Zhanks again!"

"You're welcome, Adelle." (y/n) waved goodbye to her before she left the house. She then ascended the stairs, stopping at Francis's room.

It was silent from the other side of the door. (y/n) didn't dare knock. Instead she carefully opened the door and slipped inside, closing it behind her softly. Her sock clad feet were silent as she crossed the carpet to the bed. (y/n) bit back a chuckle when she saw Francis cocooned by his blankets. Music played softly from his ihome, acting as background noise. She pulled up the chair from Francis's desk so she could sit next to the bed. After quietly placing her backpack on the floor, she sat down.

"Hey, Francis," she said softly.

The mass under the blanket stirred at the familiar voice. Persian blue eyes peeked out from a gap in the covers. They widened in shock.

"(y-y/n)! Francis said, his voice barely recognizable due to the cold. "Why are you 'ere?"

"I brought you your homework, like you asked me to," (y/n) explained to her friend.

"M-merci," Francis stuttered shyly. He didn't want (y/n) to see him like this! It was embarrassing! He felt his cheeks heat up when he remembered he only wore a t-shirt and pajama bottoms, and his hair was a matted mess; he didn't brush it again after showering, or shaved. He hadn't brushed his teeth, either!

"How are you feeling?" (y/n) asked as she leaned forward a little, cocking her head in worry.

"Worse." Francis coughed. "I swear I'm dying."

"No you're not," (y/n) assured him with a small smile. "You'll get better. Especially after you take the medicine your mom gave you."

Francis shook his head with a grunt, hiding his face from (y/n) with the blanket. "Non. I won't take it." His voice was barely audible. "It tastes like old shoes."

(y/n)'s shoulders shook with silent laughter. Adelle wasn't kidding. "Come on, Francis. Just one spoon full?"

"Non!" Francis coughed again, sniffing afterwards to keep his nose from running. "Like I told my mozher, I won't take any unless it tastes like strawberries or bubblegum."

This time (y/n) giggled. "You're just like Michel." She said the name with a French accent.

Francis sat up a little and peeked out from the blanket again. His eyes were narrowed in curiosity. "Michel? Who's zhat?"

(y/n) flushed a light pink. "He's just a character in Gilmore Girls," she explained. "He's from France, and is very picky about everything."

"And I'm like 'im?" (y/n) could tell by his tone of voice and the shift of his eyes Francis was pouting.

"Only a little bit," (y/n) teased lightly. (y/n) sighed. As adorable as this was, she knew it had to stop. " Francis, you're not a kid anymore. And the medicine actually doesn't taste that bad. But, if it's cherry flavored, then I sympathize." (y/n) shuddered. "I hate cherry. Grape tastes good though."

This time Francis moved more of the blanket so (y/n) could see his face. "Could you check zhe box and tell me if it's cherry or not?"

(y/n) smiled. "Sure. And while I'm at it, I'll find something for you to eat. I bet you're starving."

Francis's stomach growled in response. He nodded sheepishly. "Merci, (y/n)."

"You're welcome."

While (y/n) warmed up a can of hearty chicken noodle soup, her thoughts drifted to Francis. Seeing him so sick made her heart sink. She pondered on what else she could do to cheer him up.  There really wasn't much, aside from making him a get well card and simply talking to him. Once the soup reached a tolerable temperature, (y/n) poured it into a big mug, grabbed a spoon, placed them on a tray and walked back up stairs. She spied the bottle of medicine on the desk as she lay the tray on top of it. She checked the flavor and smiled.

"You're lucky Francis," she said as she turned to face him, shaking the bottle lightly. "It's grape."

"Oh, bon," Francis croaked with a sigh of relief. (y/n) noticed he managed to sit upright with both of his pillows behind him, one on top of the other. His hair was a tangled mess, sticking out in every direction possible, and his cheeks were flushed. He stared at his phone in concentration. "You really zhink I'm obsessed with Celine Dion, extremely 'ealzh conscious and 'ate kids?" Francis held out his phone, raising a skeptical brow.

(y/n) face palmed and shook her head in silent laughter. "Only the health conscious bit." She walked up to the nightstand and moved the alarm clock enough so she could place the tray on top. "You really looked him up?"

"I 'ad to!" Francis pouted again. "I wanted to know who you compared me to."

"I was just teasing, Francis," (y/n) explained while picking up the tray again. She placed it on the night stand. Before Francis could protest she placed a hand to his forehead to check his temperature. "You have a fever. Are you cold?"

"I am a little cold," Francis told her, fixing sad puppy dog eyes on her.

(y/n)'s heart suddenly decided it was time to run a marathon. She felt her cheeks heat up again. 'Gosh, Francis . . . Why do you have to be so cute when you're sick!'

"I'll get you a jacket," (y/n) mumbled as she quickly turned away and got to her feet. She kept her face away from his line of sight as she went to the closet.

Francis couldn't help but smirk at her reaction. He had a hunch for months now that (y/n) had a crush on him. It seemed he was right. He decided to stop playing around and act serious. It wasn't right to mess with her the way he was. (y/n) came back with a navy blue cotton jacket and handed it to him.

"Here," she said simply. As Francis took the jacket, he let his fingers brush against hers. The look on his face made her heart race again. It was one of genuine appreciation.

"Merci." With help from (y/n), he managed to put on the jacket and zipped it up. "I zhink I can eat zhe soup wizhout your 'elp."

"Are you sure?" (y/n) asked, her voice laced with concern. "You look pretty weak, Francis."

He nodded. "Oui. You've done enough already."

"Okay." (y/n) gingerly placed the tray on Franci's lap and handed him the cup of soup. "Be careful. It's not hot, but warm enough."

"Merci."

Francis watched (y/n) as she picked up her backpack and walked to the desk. She unzipped it and started placing his homework on top. He wrapped his fingers around the spoon. His hand shook a little as he lifted it to scoop up some soup. He managed to pick up a noodle and a piece of carrot with the broth. A determined sigh left his lips as he raised the spoon to his mouth. Halfway there, his arm gave out. The spoon fell to the tray with a clack, splattering its contents on the way down. (y/n) spun around at the sound. Francis groaned pitifully as he rested his head on his pillow. His shoulders shook and his lips trembled. (y/n) darted to his side.

"I 'ate zhis," Francis said, loathing how pathetic the words sounded due to his cold. He felt tears run down his cheeks. "I 'ate being sick and feeling weak."

(y/n) pulled the chair closer to the bed. "Francis, it's okay." She wiped away his tears. "I've been just as sick, and know how you feel right now. It's okay to let others take care of you." (y/n)'s fingers brushed some stubborn blond hairs away from Francis's forehead. "I know it's hard because you are a guy, and guys are supposed to feel all macho and tough." Francis chuckled at that, managing a small smile. He fixed his tired eyes on the beautiful girl next to him. "Will you let me help?" (y/n) asked him. "Please?"

Francis nodded in reply.

(y/n) smiled. She picked up the cup and spoon from the tray before placing it on the nightstand. She filled the spoon with the lukewarm soup and held it in front of Francis's mouth. Instead of opening it, he smirked. "What, no 'elicopter?" he teased. Hearing (y/n) snort as she held back a hearty laugh was gratifying. Only he could make her laugh that hard. "I'm just joking."

"I know," (y/n) giggled with a grin.

Francis snatched the spoon into his mouth, chewing up the noodle and bit of chicken that was on the spoon. He swallowed slowly, enjoying the taste of the soup. He managed to eat half of the soup by the spoonful. While (y/n) placed the cup back on the tray, he said, "Tu es un ange."

(y/n)'s heart fluttered at how he said the phrase. She recognized it from earlier--his mother had said it, too. "I'm no French expert," (y/n) said as she turned around to look at him, "But does that mean what I think it means?"

"If you zhink it means "you are an angel", zhen oui," Francis answered with a smile. "And it's true."

(y/n) flushed pink yet again. "Thank you," she said softly. It took her a few seconds to compose herself. "Now for your medicine."

France pulled a disgusted face at the mention of the concoction. "Must I?"

To (y/n)'s relief, he took the full dose, commenting on the tolerable taste of the medicine. She asked him if she could brush out his hair, which he accepted in a heartbeat. Once she came back with his brush, (y/n) sat beside him on the bed and carefully tamed his locks. As she smoothed it out, Francis started to relax against her, humming softly as he started falling asleep. His head rolled to the side, coming to rest on (y/n)'s shoulder. A soft, open-mouthed snore told her he was fast asleep. With rosy cheeks, (y/n) slowly moved out from behind him as she rearranged the pillows. She aided him back onto the bed and tucked him in, pulling the covers up to his chin.

(y/n) couldn't help but tuck Francis's hair behind his ear, letting her fingers linger on his jaw. She stared at him as he slept, noting how handsome he was. Her thoughts led her back to when they first met and became friends. They had some crazy times together, yet she enjoyed every moment, and fell for him more with each one. (y/n) sighed quietly. She leaned down and pressed her lips to his still warm forehead.

"Sweet dreams, Francis," (y/n) said as she gathered up the soup and the tray. She took it back downstairs, returning to Francis's room for her backpack. She was unaware that Francis silently watched her from his bed with a twinkle in his eyes. When she left once more, he snuggled back into his covers and closed his eyes.

"Merci, mon ange," he said as he drifted back asleep.

(y/n) went back to Francis's house the next day to check on him. He was sitting in bed when she walked into his room, catching up on his homework. There was a huge difference from the day before. The medicine worked its magic and helped him recover from the cold. Francis still had a cough and a runny nose, but they were manageable. He smiled at her from his bed.

"Ah! I was 'oping you'd come today," he said as she walked up to him.

"I thought I'd see if you needed help with your homework." (y/n) noticed that the medicine bottle's contents had diminished some since she last gave him a dose.

"I could use a little," Francis admitted. "If you don't mind."

"Not at all." (y/n) went to fetch the chair again.

"Wait. Why not sit on my bed?" Francis offered. "I'm not contagious. I promise."

(y/n) raised an eyebrow at her friend. "Okay." She planted herself at the foot of the bed, right across from Francis. She crossed her legs underneath herself in the process. "So! What do you need help with?"

Francis's answer wasn't what she expected. She felt the bed shift as he leaned forward. He pressed his lips to her cheek chastely, letting them linger against her skin afterwards. (y/n) stared at him as he pulled away, smiling at her warmly. Her rosy cheeks were adorable.

"W-w-wha . . ." (y/n) couldn't form a proper sentence she was so stunned. Francis understood what she was trying to say.

"It's for yesterday," Francis told her. He brushed his fingertips across the cheek he kissed. "And for zhe card you left. It was beautiful."

"Y-you're welcome," (y/n) said shyly. Her (e/c) eyes suddenly became interested in his blue, black and white striped comforter.

Francis scooted closer to (y/n). "I 'ave somezhing to confess."

"Okay." (y/n) managed to look Francis in the eye. The nervous look on her face warned him to be cautious.

"You 'ave no idea 'ow much yesterday means to me," Francis began. "Not zhat many people would do what you did, and you did it wizhout zhinking." He felt his cheeks heat up, yet continued. "I realized zhis morning I want more moments like zhat wizh you. I want to return zhe favor one day." Francis's eyes darted away from (y/n)'s for a split second. "And I know it won't be possible unless we start dating. So . . . would you be interested?"

(y/n)'s eyes smiled before her mouth did. The happiness and relief she felt at Francis's words couldn't be described. She nodded. "Yes."

Francis really wanted to kiss her properly, but knew better than to do so. He kissed her forehead instead.

"Francis, I swear if I get sick because of you--"

The Frenchman laughed as he hugged (y/n) from the side, peppering the side of her face with kisses. "Zhen I'll come and take care of you, mon ange.~" (y/n)'s infectious laugh joined his as she tried to squirm away from him and failed. He continued to kiss her jaw, down her neck, then back up again. When his lips got dangerously close to her mouth, (y/n) had tossed her fear of getting sick out the window. It was obvious Francis loved her. The words he said and the way he spoke them conveyed it in a way that was undeniable.

(y/n) brushed her lips against Francis's teasingly. His breath hitched at the contact. A heartbeat later he framed her face with his hands and claimed her lips with his, kissing her tenderly over and over. Their hums of content harmonized with each other.

"Now you'll have to come and take care of me," (y/n) said with a playful smirk.

"Oh I will, mon amor.~" Francis answered as he stroked her (h/c) hair. He placed one last kiss on her temple. "I will."
This was requested by :iconpink-sugarr: . I hope you like it!~ It was a delight to write for you. Thanks for suggesting it. :glomp:

I do enjoy writing for France. He's such a lovable character. My forever favorite is still Germany, though. XD

I didn't include any translations because the main phrase that needed it does get translated in the story, and is doubled as the title. Everything else is pretty easy to pick up. I also didn't want his mom in the story to be nameless, so I chose to name her Adelle.~

I do not own Gilmore Girls(I referenced the series in the story), or Hetalia.

Enjoy!~
