Literature Text

((A/N: This takes place after the Anime and manga. Kyouya and reader are finishing their last semester of high school and moving on to college.))

Kyoya sat on the couch in the living room of his home, waiting for (y/n) to come back from the kitchen. He had invited her over to watch a movie. As nice as it was to be around his friends, he wanted it to be just (y/n).

From the first day she moved to Japan and began attending Ouran Academy, Kyoya had an interest in her. She wasn't like the other girls, acting more like Haruhi. Her upbringing was fairly similar, as well. Since she lived in America for most of her life, (y/n) knew what it was like to work and get by from paycheck to paycheck, even though her father was a well known doctor. Kyoya found himself admiring the Japanese-American for her dedication and value of hard work. She was very independent, liking to do things herself. (y/n) also knew when to be patient and kind to others.

This combination of qualities appealed to Kyoya. He knew a woman with such traits would be a huge asset to the family company. He also knew his father shared similar views, having made observations of his own and telling his youngest son. Kyoya wondered if he had talked to (y/n)'s father about a betrothal. He had yet to be informed of it, but doubted that it hadn't been brought up. Kyoya was so deep in thought he failed to notice (y/n) as she returned to the living room.

"I got the popcorn!" she said with a smile. Hearing her voice made Kyoya start. He turned so he could see her. "Aijima showed me where it was. It was very kind of him."

Kyoya raised an eyebrow in curiosity. "He let you make it yourself?" He shifted a little so (y/n) could sit next to him on the couch.

"Yup." (y/n) claimed her spot and placed the medium sized bowl of popcorn between them. "Air popped popcorn is better than the prepackaged stuff. He made sure I didn't over butter it."

"I'll be the judge of that." Kyoya took a piece and placed it in his mouth. The corners twitched into a small smile. "It's perfect. Now we can start the movie."

"Which one did you pick?" (y/n) asked as she took a small handful of popcorn.

"The Wind Rises," Kyoya told her. He leaned forward, reaching for the DVD player remote. "I bought it a few days ago, but haven't had the time to watch it yet."

"Oooh. It's a good one." (y/n) ate a piece of popcorn. "You'll like it, Kyoya."

The young man fixed his dark brown, nearly obsidian eyes on the girl next to him. "You've seen it already?"

"Mm hm," (y/n) said with a nod. "But don't change it. I'd love to see it again."

Kyoya smirked faintly. "Alright then." He sat back into the couch and pushed play on the remote.

"The main character reminds me of you," (y/n) said, keeping her voice low as the movie started. "And you'll see why."

Kyoya chuckled at her comment. "Guess I'll have to pay extra attention."

(y/n) giggled as she ate a few more pieces of popcorn. "You don't have to. I'm just saying that he does."

Throughout the movie, Kyoya's mind wandered from the movie to the girl beside him. He recalled the day she first came to see the Host Club, and how odd she found it. She nearly left the room but was stopped by Tamaki, who welcomed her with his usual flair. (y/n) didn't actively participate in the club, yet she came daily. She mostly sat with Kyoya at the desk, talking about upcoming club activities and the budget. After a while she was welcomed into their friend circle, clicking well with everyone--especially Haruhi. He'd never admit it openly, but Kyoya was grateful she started coming to the club after school. His burden had been lightened, and the club funds had managed to stay within his preference. They had saved quite a bit of money, and the new ideas were refreshing.

Kyoya lowered his eyes towards (y/n), watching her from their corners. She had drawn up her legs, tucking her feet underneath her as she nibbled at the popcorn he barely touched. He felt a familiar fluttering in his chest. The young man had fought it before. This time he welcomed it. Kyoya had yet to pin down the exact day he started to have feelings for (y/n). It didn't matter, though. The fact he had them at all was enough.

The desire to tell (y/n) how much he liked her and enjoyed her company was strong. It went against Kyoya's nature to keep quiet. He wanted her to realize it on her own. It was too simple to say just three little words. He knew early on that they were perfect for each other. Her personality complimented his and they worked well together. Their close friendship caused rumors to circulate around the academy. Even Tamaki believed them, immediately telling the others. When confronted about the rumor, (y/n) did her best to clarify that it wasn't true. On more than one occasion Kyoya had been close by and backed her words with his. He stood by her, putting an end to the idiotic lie. Kyoya neither confirmed nor denied that he was attracted to her in such a way. The truth stayed locked inside of him until the moment was right.

A sudden fear of losing (y/n) crashed over Kyoya. He would be leaving for America in a few months to for college. What would happen if (y/n) didn't pick up his hints in time? Would she date someone else? His heart sank with the depressing thoughts. There was no way he'd be able to find someone like her. He didn't think he'd even have such a relationship with anyone. If things didn't work between him and (y/n), a forced betrothal was imminent. Then he'd have to live with the regret of ceasing his stubbornness and telling (y/n) his feelings. In the blink of an eye, this moment and future ones like it would pass them by.

"Do you like it so far?" (y/n) whispered to him as they watched the movie.

Kyoya chuckled at her question. "I do," he answered just as softly. "The part with the earthquake was very fascinating."

"Wasn't it?" (y/n) agreed. "It was like the earth was alive."

She heard her friend chuckle. "You were right," Kyoya admitted to (y/n) as he adjusted his glasses. "Jiro and I are very similar."

(y/n) giggled softly. "Both of you are full of dedication and determination, never giving up on your dreams."

Hearing those words made Kyoya's heart flutter. "You really think so?" he asked as she looked down at her.

(y/n) fixed her beautiful (e/c) eyes on his. "I do." She smiled at him. "I know you'll gain your father's approval and inherit his company. In my opinion you are the only one capable of such a task."

The urge to lean down and kiss her right then was overwhelming. Kyoya fought it the best he could, giving her a genuine smile instead. "Then I won't stop trying."

(y/n)'s heart began to race when he smiled. It was so tender and full of love. This wasn't the first time she saw it either. She felt her face heat up in embarrassment and looked away, fixing her eyes to the coffee table. "Good," she said softly, praying he didn't see her blush.

Kyoya did see her blush and chuckled. It was what he had hoped to see. He shifted into a more comfortable position while subtly scooting closer to (y/n), "absently" draping an arm across the back of the couch. That was as far as he was going to go. If his hunch was correct(which it rarely wasn't), (y/n) would follow his lead. Just as he thought, she moved enough for him to feel her against his side. Kyoya then lowered his hand, resting it against the head of the couch. His fingertips lightly brushed her arm in the process. Kyoya took a deep breath and exhaled slowly, masking his sigh of relief. He welcomed her warmth, letting it encompass him as they continued watching The Wind Rises.

During the scene when Jiro and Naoko are at the inn, Kyoya began dropping more hints to (y/n). As Jiro made the paper airplanes and tossed them to Naoko, he slowly ran his fingers up and down her bicep, like he was doing it "unconsciously". (y/n) glanced away from the TV to stare at his hand. The gesture created a tingling current, like an electric shock, to course through her body. It was then everything fell into place. She hadn't been imagining things. Kyoya had been subtly dropping hints for months! (y/n) shyly pressed herself closer to Kyoya's side, resting her head on his chest afterwards. The boy beside her fought back a triumphant smile.

"Are you done with the popcorn?" Kyoya asked.

"Mm hmm," (y/n) hummed with a nod.

Hating to jostle her, Kyoya leaned forward and placed the forgotten bowl on the coffee table. With that out of the way, he was able to loosely wrap his arms around her, resting one hand on her waist with the other on her bicep. (y/n) placed her head on his chest once more with a sigh of content, wrapping and arm around the front of his midsection. They barely moved for the remainder of the film. Only Kyoya's fingers moved as they started stroking her arm again.

"Kyoya," (y/n) mumbled after a five minute silence.

"Hmm?"

"I'm sorry I didn't realize this sooner."

"It's alright," Kyoya told her as he pressed his lips to her (h/c) hair. "I knew you'd figure it out."

"But you could have just said something," (y/n) reminded him.

Kyoya laughed. "I know, but where's the fun in that?" He rested his head against hers. "I wasn't sure how you truly felt."

(y/n) hid her face in the folds of Kyoya's shirt. "Well, it's pretty obvious now, isn't it?"

Kyoya laughed more boisterously at her muffled sarcasm. "Yes. Yes it is." He hugged (y/n) close. "Are you okay with a long distance relationship?" he asked her. "Since I'll be in America until I finish college."

(y/n) shrugged. "I guess I'll be okay. I kind of deserve it for making you wait so long."

"I won't have you thinking such thoughts," Kyoya declared. He turned his torso so he could lift (y/n)'s chin enough so he could look into her eyes. "We still have two months before we graduate. I want to spend as many days as possible with you." He gave her a warm smile. "And while I'm away, I'll call you when I can, or we could Skype, depending on the time of day. There are ways to make this work, (y/n)."

(y/n) mirrored his smile. "Okay."

Now was the right time to convey how he felt. Kyoya cupped (y/n)'s cheek and stroked the skin with his thumb. He closed the distance between (y/n)'s mouth and his, pressing his lips to hers in a soft, heartfelt kiss. (y/n) instantly kissed him back, her lips moving in perfect sync with his. After a few moments Kyoya pulled away.

"I love you, (y/n)," he whispered in her ear.

Finally hearing the words made (y/n) flush an adorable shade of pink. "I love you, too."

Kyoya didn't realize how trying it was to keep a long distance relationship. It was a bit maddening to be so far apart, even though he was just in California. He called (y/n) daily and skyped with her once a week. Seeing her face helped some, though it paled in comparison to actually being with her. Before leaving Japan Kyoya promised (y/n) he'd come back to Japan for Spring Break and Christmas, which he kept. From the moment he was able to hold (y/n) in his arms since leaving, Kyoya knew without a doubt she was the one. His heart belonged to her, and (y/n)'s belonged to him. Even though some of his visits were short, they cherished each one.

**Extended Ending**

(y/n) graduated college a good two years before Kyoya did. She earned her teaching degree and was promptly hired to teach eighth graders at Ouran Academy's middle school. In no time she found a good routine for both her and her students. (y/n) also became one of the favorites among the students. Everyone wanted her to be their home room teacher. Even parents of future students were requesting her! Hearing such news from his girlfriend made Kyoya smile. It meant her hard work was worth it and the academy would keep her as long as possible. Who knows, maybe in the future she'd move up to the high school! Only time would tell.

~~*~~ One Year Later ~~*~~

"I'm so glad you made it back safely, Son! It's such a relief to have you home."

"I agree, Mother," Kyoya chuckled lightly as he walked toward the luggage claim. His plane had landed moments ago. It sure felt nice to be back in Japan, for good this time. "It is nice to be officially back."

"I hope your flight wasn't too long."

"It was fine. Just your average flight. I did manage to sleep some."

"That's good. Did Hotta come with you?"

Kyoya looked over to the loyal older man beside him with a smile. "Yes, Mother. He's here. Did Father provide us a car?"

"He did. So, when will you be arriving?" Kyoya's mother asked. "Your father and I wanted to take you to dinner to celebrate your graduation and return home."

"About that." Kyoya adjusted his glasses habitually while watching for his luggage. "I won't be heading directly home. There is somewhere I need to go first."

Mrs. Ootori immediately knew where he planned to go. "Ah," she said in understanding. Kyoya could tell she was smiling just by her tone of voice. "You never told her, did you?"

"I didn't," Kyoya admitted. He spotted his single large suitcase and nodded to Hotta. The man promptly removed it from the conveyor belt. "She still thinks I'm coming home next week instead."

"Well, she'll be very surprised to see you."

"That's what I'm hoping for." Once Hotta withdrew the handle of the suitcase Kyoya followed him to the escalator. "Will it be alright if (y/n) joins us for dinner?"

"Of course, Son! We'd love her company. It has been a while since we last saw her. Work has kept her from visiting lately."

"Keep in mind it's almost the end of the semester. (y/n) has a lot to do before it does." Kyoya stepped onto the escalator heading to the main floor of the airport. He leaned against the armrest as he continued talking. "Being a teacher is just as hard as being a company manager, just with different responsibilities."

"I know, Kyoya. So, when will we be expecting you and (y/n?)"

"Around five. Is that too late?"

"No. That's perfect. We'll see you then!"

Kyoya smiled at the enthusiasm in his mother's voice. "Yes you will."

"Welcome home!"

"Thanks, Mom."

"Bye Son!"

"Bye."

Kyoya ended the call with a sigh of content. He stepped off the escalator seconds after Hotta did. Together they made their way towards the parking lot to where their car waited. Hotta found the keys, unlocked the trunk and placed his master's luggage inside. Once Kyoya was inside and safely buckled in Hotta drove towards Ouran Academy. If traffic stayed good, they would arrive just as school would end. Kyoya couldn't wait to see the look on (y/n)'s face. He could barely contain his excitement.

The final bell chimed throughout the halls of Ouran Academy Middle School. Students spilled out of the classrooms, eager for the weekend to come. Once the stragglers had left, (y/n) began tidying up her desk. She gathered up the assignment that was just turned in and placed it in an empty folder, sliding it into her messenger bag to take home. As she started straightening chairs a voice drew her attention from the doorway. (y/n) looked to find one of her students shyly clutching a textbook to her chest. The girl sheepishly asked for her to help her with a math lesson she didn't understand. Without hesitation (y/n) motioned her back into the classroom so she could help.

While they stood at the chalkboard working out the problem, another visitor came to the classroom. Instead of entering, he stayed just outside to watch the interaction between the teacher and student. The well dressed man couldn't help but smile. Seeing his girlfriend actually teaching made his heart flutter. She clearly had a gift; it was obvious from the smiles and laughter (y/n) and her student shared. (y/n) made learning fun and engaging, which was what Ouran Academy wanted for their students. Kyoya couldn't have been prouder.

"Thank you, Miss (y/n)," the student said as she gathered up her things. "You helped me a ton."

"You're welcome, Sora," (y/n) replied with a smile. "Feel free to come to me whenever you need extra help, okay?"

Sora nodded enthusiastically. "I will. You're the best."

(y/n) felt her cheeks flush at the compliment. "Thank you."

Just as Sora was about to leave her eyes fell on Kyoya. Her eyes widened in recognition as he gave her a soft smile. He was dressed so sharply in a tailored, navy blue suit, white shirt and grey silk tie. His pitch black hair was lightly styled, emphasizing his face and eyes. Kyoya sure was handsome. No wonder he was a member of the legendary Host Club!

"Um . . . Miss (l/n)?"

"Yes, Sora?' (y/n) replied as she wiped down the chalkboard.

"Are you expecting someone today?" Sora asked her teacher.

(y/n) paused in thought. "No, I just planned to go home." She continued to clean the board.

"Are you sure? There's someone here to see you."

Now that puzzled (y/n). She didn't arrange for anyone to meet her after school. "That's odd. Who would . . ." Her voice trailed off when her eyes made contact with Kyoya. Her heart literally stopped for a split second, then almost leaped out her chest. She raised a trembling hand to her lips in shock. (y/n) also fought back the tears of joy that quickly filled her eyes. "Kyoya." She barely managed to say his name due to her trembling voice.

"Hello, (y/n)," Kyoya said with a warm smile. He slowly walked into the classroom.

Still overcome with shock, (y/n) barely remembered to introduce him to her student. "Kyoya, this is Sora, one of my students. Sora, this is Kyoya Ootori."

"I'm her boyfriend," Kyoya added with a smirk. He politely bowed to the girl. "It's nice to meet you."

Sora enthusiasticaly bowed to Kyoya. "It's nice to meet you, too, sir. And welcome back!"

"Thank you."

"Well, I better not keep you," Sora said with a grin. Her cheeks were a little pink from her shyness towards Kyoya. "I'll see you Monday!"

"Bye Sora!" (y/n) said with a wave. Once the girl was out of sight (y/n) turned to Kyoya. "You told me you were coming home next week," she chided him.

"I know, love," Kyoya apologized. He saw a tear trail down her cheek and brushed it away. "I wanted to surprise you."

"Well it worked," (y/n) said with a light laugh. "I can't believe it! You're really home."

"Yes," Kyoya said as he wrapped his arms around (y/n), not caring if other teachers saw them or not. "I'm home."

(y/n)'s arms quickly circled around his back. She hugged him tightly, not wanting to let him go. "I've missed you so much."

"Same here."

After a while, (y/n) chuckled as she realized something. "It seems that America has worn off on you a little," she teased.

Kyoya laughed. "I do like how they're able to show affection openly, though there were times when I wished it weren't so."

His comment made (y/n) laugh. "Really?"

"Oh, yes. I was appalled. As much as I'd like for our culture to show a little more public affection, I'm grateful for it."

Kyoya pressed his lips to (y/n)'s forehead. He trailed feather light kisses down her cheek to her lips. Knowing that kissing in public was frowned upon in Japan, he tried to keep them as chaste as he could. It was difficult, though. It had been a very long time since he last kissed his girlfriend. The kisses left them breathless.

"Mother and Father want to take us to dinner," Kyoya told (y/n) when he could breath again. "Is that okay?"

(y/n) nodded. "Yeah! That's fine. I was just going to grade papers tonight anyway." Kyoya chuckled and planted one more kiss on (y/n)'s temple. "But, will you be okay?" (y/n) asked. "How's your jet lag? Do you need to rest?"

Kyoya smiled tenderly at (y/n). "I am a little tired, but I can make it through dinner. I'll just sleep in tomorrow."

"Okay." (y/n) kissed his cheek before stepping back. "Let me gather my things, then we'll go."

"Alright." Kyoya helped (y/n) so they could leave sooner. "By the way, I have a suspicion there's more to this dinner than just to welcome me home."

Just as Kyoya thought, his father, Yoisho Ootori, confided in him, his wife and (y/n) that he chose Kyoya to become his successor. His reasons were sound: out of his three sons, Kyoya was the one that put forth the most effort. Kyoya had the drive to keep the family company going and help it progress. Finally hearing it from his father was music to Kyoya's ears. He was extremely happy to hear that his hard work paid off; yet hearing that his father noticed it and carefully made his decision humbled him. He was honored to be named his father's heir.

The next day was for relaxing. Kyoya spent it with (y/n), wanting nothing more. They simply stayed at her apartment and talked while she graded homework. Later that night Kyoya surprised (y/n) yet again by asking her to marry him. Without hesitation she accepted. They had waited long enough.

Three days later Yoisho held a press conference to officially announce that Kyoya would be his successor. Kyoya's mother, sister, and brothers stood behind them as they spoke to the flock of reporters and news anchors, answering any questions that were asked. (y/n) was also there, standing beside Fuyumi to show her support. Sensing (y/n)'s nervousness, Fuyumi gave her a comforting smile and held her hand. Mrs. Ootori also gave her a smile. They knew being a part of the Ootori family came with lots of public appearances and interviews. Both of them wanted to help (y/n) with the transition.

After the conference, Yoisho observed Kyoya and (y/n), noting how they interacted with the reporters and handled the stress that came with it. He was genuinely worried for (y/n), but after a few minutes of watching her smile and laugh, his worry faded away. His son couldn't have chosen a better woman.
I finally wrote this!!! Hallelujah!!! The original plot line I had in mind wasn't working at all. So I went a different direction and it worked out. Yes, this is a little on the short side(short compared to the others), but everything I wanted to include is in the story.

This was inspired by Colby Calait's Realize. Here is the link for the song on Youtube:  www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-elI3…

Kyouya Ootori belongs to Host Club. (Image was found on google, which took me to pinterest, then to fanpop.com)

And "The Wind Rises" belongs to Miyazaki. It is a really good movie! I recommend it to any readers that haven't seen it yet.

Enjoy.~

5/4/16:  I really edited this story more than I originally intended, but it needed it! It ended a bit abruptly, in my opinion. Hopefully the extended ending makes it flow better. XD I researched Kyoya's family member's names and they are legit. Yoisho is his dad's name. His mother's name was never mentioned.
